FOUNDER’S HELLO
STAY CONNECTED. Those words have never sounded more powerful. We are grateful to offer you our third PERKS newsletter, our quarterly endeavor to stay connected with you, our Founders Circle friends. As the summer winds down, we gear up for our fall and winter programming. There is an incredible range of programs, people, and ideas to encounter on CAI. There are also new hosts to introduce you to, virtual event planning underway and fellow members to highlight. Read on and stay connected.

Behind the Binoculars with Mark Faherty
Mark Faherty loves birds and listeners love Mark Faherty. Friday, October 22, 10:30 AM, Founders Circle members have an exclusive opportunity to join Mindy Todd and Mark for an intimate Zoom event to engage in a behind the scenes look and discussion of the CAI Bird Report, all things bird, and to learn how to get our feathered friends (and ourselves) ready for migration or overwintering.

Save your spot in the virtual meeting:

P.S. We’d love for you to share your pdf or jpeg images of your backyard birding adventures. Please attach any and all pictures to your RSVP.
NPR’s Shankar Vedantam, the host and creator of Hidden Brain, will be virtually visiting the GBH studios on November 9, 2021, 6-7PM. Virtual seats are limited to 50. We are taking a count of CAI Founders Circle members who would like to take part in this event or would have an interest in inviting Shankar to our own event.

In addition, The Moth Radio Hour announced two more local venues for their live shows, now returning to the stage. The first will be at the Zeiterion Theatre in New Bedford, March 2022 and the second at the Tabernacle on Martha’s Vineyard, August 2022. If you would be interested in attending any of these events courtesy of the Founders Circle please notify Founders Circle Director, Patty Peal at patricia_peal@capeandislands.org
FC APPLAUSE
We applaud the following members of the Founders Circle for their work in our communities:

Cape: Jaqueline and Jeffrey Morby help research Alzheimer’s disease with curealz.org
South Coast: Nancy believes in diverse and restorative communities like roundthebendfarm.org
Islands: Andy Darrell helps global climate change initiatives get off the ground with edf.org

The Founders Circle is proud to have such caring individuals in our midst, dedicated to making the world a better place and listening to CAI Public Radio.
FC CELEBRATES
A marriage proposal, a birth, a new host, and a venerable Managing Editor!
  • Please join us as we congratulate Morning Edition producer Sam Houghton, who recently popped the question to his soulmate. She said yes and they plan to tie the knot next year.
  • Morning Edition host, Kathryn Eident and husband Doug welcomed Vivian Rose into their family last month during our pledge drive. What a gift! The new parents are very busy getting to know their new bundle of joy. Kathryn will return to Morning Edition sometime in February.
  • Meet Morning Edition fill-in host, Patrick Flanary. Patrick will be holding down the morning microphone with Sam while Kathryn is away.
  • Thank you, Mindy Todd, for guiding the CAI ship for twenty years. Mindy celebrated her 20th anniversary last month and it is fair to say that we would not be the loved, local station that we are if it were not for her talent, commitment, and love of public media. We salute you.

FC PRESENTS
Be the first to know about CAI programming changes:

Some good news for music lovers in our audience: starting on Saturday October 16, the 7-9PM programming slot will be filled with Mountain Stage a radio show that has proudly provided a platform for both emerging and established artists since 1983.

Some bittersweet news for Innovation Hub fans is that the show will only air on CAI until November 22. At that time the Saturday 1PM time slot will feature Latino USA, with host Maria Hinojosa and the Monday 9AM and 7PM time slot will go back to our local public affairs show The Point
